Sweet DIY Valentine’s Gift

If you are looking for a thoughtful and sweet way to show people in your life how much you love them, you might want to give this quick and easy DIY a try. It would be perfect for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Just change out the word to fit your needs.

I bought this plain piece of wood at Hobby Lobby. Already cut, sanded and ready to paint. I chose a color to match my Mother-in-Law's home and let the kids paint the wood. When it dried I took sandpaper to the edges and gave it a weathered finish.

Then I used my carbon transfer technique and painted the words on the sign. You DO NOT need a fancy machine to cut stencils or vinyl for you to make personal signs. Just print out your words and trace onto your surface using old carbon paper-yes, they actually still sell this stuff at Office Max! I sealed it with a clear wood wax. Then I used tiny screws and tiny clips from the scrapbooking department to create a place to hold the photos.

Gramma seemed pretty excited to open this gift that will help her enjoy her grandchildren every day!

  1. That is clever and cute! Great job!

  2. Mary Francis says:

Love it, ad intend to copy it. How long a piece of wood do I need? Here’s a hint that my interior decorator sister-in-law taught me–always carry a tiny tape measure in your purse.

    • HA! I need that bit of advice because I often find myself using body parts to measure and buy materials and somehow it doesn’t usually work out! I am flattered that you want to copy the idea! Mine was about 3 feet and fit 4 clips to hold 8 pictures. But make it as long as short as will fit your space!

  3. This is so cute and our grandparents would just eat it up! Great idea: )
