Record Album Chalkboard Sign

Last year I saw this amazing mantle from Life as a Thrifter

and decided I needed to stock up on Christmas albums when I found them at thrift stores.

I remembered for about 3 months and then completely forgot to keep looking for albums. Yesterday, I remembered that I had about 5 and  should jump on it and do something with them. I don't have enough cute album jackets to recreate this mantle, but figured out something new to do with the albums I have!

I painted one with chalkboard paint and now I have a cute Christmas sign!  Next time I will roll on the paint though, because the brush left some monster marks. Even after a ton of sanding with some fine grade sandpaper, they are still pretty noticeable.

I really like the label on this album though, so I am hoping the "rough" look of the chalkboard just adds too the charm of the piece.

I am making a note for June 26th in my 2013 planner, to keep looking for Christmas albums. Maybe by next year, I will have enough covers to create something super amazing. But for now, I am pretty happy with this guy!

This is an awesome idea! I have been painting records for a few years. I paint the middle circle with multi- Purpose Sealer , the brand I use is by Deco Art and comes in a bottle. (It’s important to seal the circle first or the lettering bleeds through) Then I paint the circle white, or off white. Then I darken around the edges of the circle. Paint on a snowman face…then on the black part, I write (or paint) the words…Frosty’s Greatest Hits… (other sayings I use…Frosty the Snowman…Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow) Carefully drill a hole in the top and add homespun for a hanger. These are a huge hit at my craft shoes. I picked up a whole load of these at my Local Salavation Army Store for 10 cents a piece.

    • YAY, Sandi! Thanks for sharing, I can’t wait to try this out. not so sure about my skill at painting the snowman but I will give it a shot!
