My recycle bin is now officially empty! Yesterday I cleared out all of the tin cans for this project and today I used up all of our old newspapers and an empty cereal box for these adorbs gift bags!
This one gets easier with each bag you make. By the third one I was moving fast. You will need to be measuring, which I usually don't do, but it was kind of necessary for this project.
2 sheets of newspaper
empty cereal box (or other cardboard)
2 pieces of string
The most challenging part is getting your measurements and then folding and gluing was easy. You will need a double layer of newspaper cut to 15.5" wide by 8.25" tall. Then measure and fold to these dimensions.
I did all of my measurements and marked everything with my pencil. Then I made all of my folds and unfolded to get ready for gluing.
Next, cut out one cardboard piece 4" by 2.5" which will fit into the bottom of the bag. Then, cut two cardboard pieces 4.25" by 1" for the top of your bag.
Once your newspaper is folded and your cardboard is ready to go, glue the two small pieces along the top edges of your bag along the 4.5" sides. Then fold over the top edge and glue both sheets of paper down.
Then, glue along the .5" side and attach it to the opposite side to assemble the shape of the bag.
Turn the bag on its side and fold the bottom like you are wrapping a gift. Glue each of the tabs down and set your bag right side up.
Glue your 4" by 2.5" piece of cardboard into the bottom of the bag to make it more durable.
Punch holes in the top for the strings and tie the strings on the bag.
I had fun trying to align great images on the outside of the bag. Choose cool artwork, sporting events, beautiful scenery, whatever fits your recipient!
I like to make a bunch of these to have on hand for small gift giving occasions that pop up-and they always seem to pop up!
