Hmmmm….A New Pallet Shelf

I am still on the fence with this one.

I chopped up a pallet and painted it orange. I attached some hangers on the back, but the whole shelf wasn't stable, so I needed to come up with something else. I decided to wrap  jute around the shelf and  attach it to a big honker of a hook.

Now, I like the jute and I like the shelf, but I am not loving the hook in the middle.

I really love being able to display my bottle collection and other trinkets too.

And it really goes well with the amazing photo canvas above it. My friend Nichole, of Nicole Tipton Photography took it. She is in the Colorado Springs/Denver area if anyone needs a great photographer!

So, help me! I would love any advice or suggestions on how to make this look a bit better.

Should I do 2 hooks and just tie up each side?

Is my whole vision way off and I should just trash the whole thing?

Should I lose the juts and get some kind of invisible hanging system in place?

  1. I love the shelf and the jute is nice but I can see some sort of ring on both sides of shelf and two hooks. Perhaps in a black iron or similar.

  2. I think you’re off to a great start!! I love the addition of the jute. I think 2 hooks might help…also, do you need the bottles in the box? The box might be adding too much wood and distracting from the pallet itself. Or maybe not. 😉 Just a thought.

This wouldn’t be necessarily qualify, but if you have any super simple projects or tips you’d like to share I’m hosting a link party today with a few fellow bloggers. I’d be great to see you linked up. 🙂

  3. I think it’s really cute, you’re right, perfect with your picture above. What about some little “L” brackets, that could be mounted under the top shelf and then into the wall – they make them that little don’t they? 🙂

  4. I would try two hooks and I agree that the box with the bottles is taking away from the “coolness” of the shelf. Definitely like where you are going with it though!

  5. I think the shelf looks great, and I like the jute going to the middle, it some how anchors the look of it, I don’t think it would look as nice if the jute went to two separate hooks…. I would try install a knob, or older decorative looking hook, something porcelain(if you found one of those knobs that has a screw through the centre, you just install a longer one…) or a wrought iron style hook… make it part of the design!

  6. I LOVE it!! So funky chic!!! My only idea would be to paint the box the bottles are in…maybe layers of white, gray then black…rough it up a bit like it has been around forever. OR….try the bottles without the box and tie some wide pieces of burlap around a few:) LOVE your site…just discovered it & really enjoying wandering around. Take Care!!!

  7. I do really love the whole shelf . . . jute and all 🙂 Maybe it would look better without the hook in the middle – can you hang it up with something else? And those bottles rock – and now they have a great home, too!
