Chalkboard Serving Tray

Hands down my favorite project of the past few months. It was cheap, easy, and fast. Like SUPER fast. The finished tray is about 2 1/2 feet by 1 1/2 feet and I will be using this at every single party I have from now on!

Summer entertaining is huge and I am always looking for ways to look like I am really pulled together, even though what I'm serving may be pulled together last minute. This si going to help me look like I really know what I'm doing when in fact I do not:)

Do you have any tips or tricks to feel pulled together in your own summer entertaining. Because I sure am open to more suggestions!

I bought a pre-cut piece of wood at Lowes for $5.99 at 10 am and was photographing the final project by 3 pm. I used Minwax stain and chalkboard paint I had on hand. The little handles were from an old desk I dismanteled and they are just hot glued on-so I can't actually pick up the tray using them, but I thought they were a nice accent.

I set this up for a taco bar, but I can think of a ton of ways to use it! My book club has many dietary restrictions and it will be nice to label dishes so everyone knows what's safe to eat. Or at a cheese and wine tasting, it will be great to have everything clearly labeled.

This tray is really sturdy and the large size will look great at a picnic or buffet. Check out how my kids felt about this photo shoot  here on Instagram.

I love that the wood grain is imperfect and that I can still see it through the 2 layers of chalkboard paint.

I didn't use food safe materials, so I won't be setting food directly on the tray. I liked the clear glass dishes so the food really stands out.

I may make another smaller one so I room for everything I am serving at my next party. Since it was so so quick and easy, I may be making a few for gifts as well! I think most of my friends would love to have this in their pantry just waiting for the next oarty-would you?
