Every so often is a good idea to shake up the energy in a space. We needed more light, less chaos, and a calmer color palette. This little redo cost less than $500 (and $300 was the rug!). The rug was from Home Depot and is my favorite thing in my whole house-thick and luxurious!
I grabbed the wooden crates from Michael's and I turned them into some toy storage for the kids. Find out how I did it here.
I bought the table and lamps at the thrift store for $45 total. I spray painted the lamps and bought new lamp shades for them. Then I primed (2 coats), painted (3 coats), and added a dark wax finish.
I kept our good old slip covered (from Target) couches because I still don't trust those darn kids with anything nice or new:) I also got the curtains from Target, but the coffee table crate from a friend was free. It was oak color and I spray painted it for more storage space....those kids again...
I added some new pillows from Ross, which I am in love with.
I framed some of my favorite shots and a great print from In or Out Media.
My mantle has been changing lately, but one thing is staying the same...Larry. He has had a rough life and you can read about his plight here.
Now, I have the perfect little corner for my plants and they hide all of my cable cords.
Scout is pretty happy with the changes. I love the light feeling I have every time I glance in there.
What do you do in your home when you need to shake it up a little? If we all had a million dollars it would be easy, but I love having to get creative with a small budget.
