Rusty Spring Christmas Garland

Back when I had Christmas in July, I made a TON of upcycled, eco firendly decorations. I am SO excited the holiday season is upon us and it makes sense to start sharing them. I am guessing you all would have thought me off my rocker if I had posted this in July!

Once again, I used my old fence. A year and a half ago someone posted a trashed fence for free on Craigslist. I hightailed it across town and packed as much as would fit in the trunk of my Subaru wagon. I have been using that fence for everything from headboards, to wall art, to a message center. I was really excited to use it for my "Recycled Christmas" theme for this year.

Here are all of the MATERIALS I used for this project:

fence post

rusty springs

book page stars

jute

raffia

nails

I started by threading the jute through the stars and then nailed the rope to the fence under each of the stars. So the nails are all hidden.

Then I tied each of the springs to the jute using pieces of raffia.

I hung it across my mantle and it looks so cool! I love the rustic and weathered look and I really love that is all old junk! I didn't have to buy anything or deal with all the packaging trash new decorations bring with them.

  3. So cute! I think one of these mornings I am going to head out to dumpster dive with bolt cutters and a big pair of scissors. I see so many mattresses! I should rip all the springs out of them!

  8. Adorable and I love your up-cycling items. I never seem to find old mattress springs, but I’ll keep on the lookout. Very cute!

    • Me neither! I just need to cruise around on garbage day with my wire cutters and rip apart any old mattress I see. I actually buy mine from Angie at Knick Of Time on ETSY.

  9. Your garland is right up my alley.
Homa Style is having a 12 Days of Christmas link party going on now.
