Homemade Ice Cream In A Baggie

I was cruising around my favorite places and pinning like a mad woman today. I just had to share one of my faves!

I found this recipe for homemade ice cram in a zip top baggie and when I realized that we had the ingredients, we had to try it immediately!

I used the recipe from 2 Little Hooligans and her directions and photos were easy and helpful.

You put

1 Cup half and half

2 Tablespoons sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

in a small zip top baggie.

Then put 1/2 cup coarse, canning, or table salt

into a large zip top bag halfway filled with ice cubes.

Nestle the small bag into the large bag and then shake for 5 minutes.

WAIT- you zipped those bags well, right?

My hands got cold ( go figure the kids wouldn't help with the actual work of this one), so I used the dishtowel shake method...it's a thing.

and dang-don't my nails look fun?

After 5 minutes we pulled out or goodie bag and had some delicious ice-cram! Next time we will probably get a little creative and add chocolate chips or cookie dough and see what happens!

What a fun and easy treat on a warm summer afternoon. It was actually worth getting out of the kiddie pool for!

My kids wouldn’t help shake it either, I thought that would be the fun part! We used milk when we made ours and it still tasted yummy. I will have to try half-and-half next time though! Thanks!! =)

  3. I’ve been looking for this recipe! We went on a hike for girls camp and when we got to the type we had our Icecream in a bag! Thanks for sharing!

I’ve been totally wanted to make ice cream in a baggie with my kids all summer! My son did it in his Kindergarten class. Did you know you can also make butter that way? Too fun! I have a brand new link party on my blog, and I would love it if you would share this! http://love-and-laundry.blogspot.com/2012/08/weekend-wonders-link-party-1.html

We use to make this in elementary school at after school camp. We would put the bags in an empty coffee tin and roll them back and forth between two or three of us! That might be a way to get your kids involved in the actual processes versus shaking the bags. Thanks for the details/recipe, elementary school was a VERY long time ago and I wouldn’t have never remembered the steps of how to make this! Brings back so many memories!
