DIY Family Art Using an Old Fence

Ahhh yes, the old fence again. I know what you're thinking,

"Isn't that dang thing gone yet?"

No, Ms. Smartie Pants and even after this project I still have a bunch left. My recommendation to you is that if you see someone throwing away a beat up and weathered old fence,

TAKE IT AND RUN!

I took as much fence (last summer) as I could fit in the back of my Subaru Outback and I have used it for all of these projects:

Head Board

Shelves

Curtain Rod

Wall Art

Frame

I decided to make another frame for this fabulous canvas print my good friend Nichole

(of Nichole Tipton Photography) took of our family last Christmas.

The print is 11-14, but it looks all small since it isn't framed. So, I decided to make it look bigger and add a bit of color.

First I measured (yes, I actually measured) and painted a blue square.

Then, I cut up the pieces of fence and screwed them into the wall.

I took some basic stencils and sprayed them with my new best friend, metallic spray paint.

I wrapped push pins with thin jute and threw it all together!

Kinda fun and different and rustic.

Whatcha think?

This is awesome! I love everything, right down to the wrapped push pins!
    I need to get over my fear of painting on the wall….and while we are at it, I am also afraid of putting holes in the walls too. Not cool…since this is our home and I should do what ever I want! {that was my pep talk to myself}
Thanks for the inspiration….my dad brought us a huge pile of old fencing a couple of weeks ago..it’s been turned into all kinds of things! I love it!
Can’t wait to start putting some holes in the wall tomorrow :)

  3. Super cute! I love all the details of it!
