Who Couldn’t Use New Bookends?

I have WAY too many books. I love to read and have a very difficult time getting rid of books.

Even though I rarely reread them, I just can't say goodbye.

Hence our need for book ends. I found a plain old wood pair at the thrift and they ended up being perfect for our living room.

Apparently I am not very good at taking before pictures. I try to photograph stuff as I purchase or find it, but the last few projects have somehow been lost in the shuffle.

These guys began just brown....nothing fancy or fun or weird....just brown. Then I sprayed them with Rust-oleum American Accents spray paint in Leafy Green.

I found it in the clearance section at Hobby Lobby for $1.07 and I should have purchased every bottle because the color is rad. You can grab some here on Amazon for $7.54.

These wood book ends received 2 coats of spray paint and then were distressed with sandpaper.

Guess what I did next? The paint was a bit too WOW for our living room so I waxed on a coat of Annie Sloan Dark Wax. Didn't know you could wax over spray paint? Me neither.

It took a really long time to dry...like 6 days to loose all the stickiness, but I think they look great. And I added the little star knobs which were also from Hobby Lobby.

The only other green item in my living room is a plant and a bit of embroidery on a pillow, and I am loving the pop of color these add.

In my quest for bookends to accommodate the 4 98 books in this house, I found some amazing inspirations on pinterest. I will be sharing all of them next week!

P.S. Persuasion, Water for Elephants, Within Reach, and The journey of Crazy Horse were ALL awesome reads- The others are still waiting to be read!
