Sun Of A …….

The sun is my enemy...

we are not on speaking terms.

My front door faces west and has a pretty much unobstructed view of the mountains. The unrelenting sun is BRUTAL and beats on my front porch as if it is hoping to ignite it in flames.

I'm not kidding....the main door and the storm door get so hot about 4 pm that we can't touch it. My daughter grabbed the handle and actually got a small burn on her hand. I seriously use my shirt sleeve or a towel to come in and out in the afternoon. Of course, I have THE BEST neighborhood ever and we are in and out about 30 times every afternoon, I have 4-5 different kids coming in and out, and what about how much it heats up my main living floor of the house!?

The LAST straw was when I opened the door on Wed morning and found  paper flowers glued to the glass storm door, the door handle, the floor, and miscellaneous parts of my lovely new wreath!

SUCKER

Was I angry! I mean seriously? The hot glue melted and those little blooms just fell and unraveled and then proceeded to harden everywhere they were not supposed to over the cool night. The glue got all smeary and greasy looking too so it totally ruined a few of the flowers.

I fixed it as best I could and it is looking ok...not as good as before but it's ok.

I am off to find a shade for my porch, which will hopefully resolve this issue...and hopefully not enrage my persnickety HOA. It will be included in the shots when I show off my porch! It has been gray and raining, but as soon as the diggety dang sun comes back out I will get some shots:)

    Oh no!

I know exactly how you feel because I opened the front door a few days after I had put my boot planters on the porch and actually gasped when I saw that they had been ravaged by a squirrel or chipmunk! Nature. It’s a fine balance ;)

BOOOOOO-I am so sorry! Those darn squirrels can be brutal. I don’t usually have issues till fall and pumpkin time. I am so sorry your gorgeous display was ravaged. Hope you can fix it

  2. Same exact thing happens to me every time I put a wreath on my front door that I have hot glued. :(

Hon,don’t know how porch looks or what going on with it,but can you put canvas shade over it maybe that cool it down…

    Kim,

I am SO sorry to hear this as I loved that wreath from the moment you posted about it. I hope it isn’t too much worse for the wear and that you can find a solution so you can hang it without that happening again. Best of luck and keep us posted!

  5. Sounds like you need a serious roof over your front porch to block the heat. I loved the wreath and it’s shame you have such a mess.
